14/2/2018 0 Comments A welcoming noteLevin Harriers “This is us” 9th February 2018
“Helping you with that work life balance” Levin is in a sweet spot at the moment with a rising population, increased business activity and a higher GDP then some of our regional neighbours: however all this good news business activity requires good management of our work life balance lifestyle. This is where joining a local sports club gets you off that couch, and away from mind numbing and brain health suppressing digital devices. As many people know, Levin Harrier Club (for harriers and walkers) has been around since 1965. The membership numbers have been fluid, ranging from twenty-two to thirty. Recently the members decided that a fresh approach was needed to ensure the longevity of the Club in the face of declining interest in many harrier clubs, a nationwide challenge. To achieve this objective the club has for the 2018 season introduced a new club logo, sports shirt design, website and club flyers. Our clubhouse is still in Tiro Tiro Road; look for the white sporty sign, in the A&P Showground where we gather before and after a club event to socialise with much merrymaking. The season kicks off this year on Saturday 24th March with an Open Day from 2pm to 4pm where interested budding “harriers and walkers” can enjoy refreshment and chat with current members. The club season runs through to the end of October. Harriers and walkers meet at Clubhouse, each Saturday at 1.45pm for a club event. Runs are varied and interesting and we are most fortunate to have built up an event bank of over 27 courses: being an adventurous bunch, we are always on the lookout for new courses. Last year we even introduced a higher risk event, the Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay Ridge run. DOC rated the track a 3 hour event, LH’s hardy team completed it under 1hr 40 mins, a fantastic effort. Everyone finished including both walkers and runners. Walkers and runners are most welcome. The minimum age is 16 with no limit on the upside. Only the arrival of the “Grim Reaper” will prevent you carrying on! For further information please see website “www.levinharriers.com” and details of our interesting and challenging 2018 event calendar. We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly relaxed eclectic group of harriers and walkers. A great slogan which has been passed down the generations by club members is “run them hills or take them pills”! Remember, running mitigates the risk of many ageing aches and pains. Keeping physically fit also helps your mental disposition. See you soon.
